As the world is reeling under severe shortage of electricity,efforts are on to use alternative resources. Prominent in the list is sunlight. The first use of sunlight was back in 1975 when solar powered wrist watch was invented. All leading watch manufacturers have their range of solar wrist watches today. These watches get power through the solar panels on top of the surface. The panels receive sunlight which is then used to operate the watch. We have computers and mobile phones which use sunlight too. A Spanish computer manufacturer has unveiled a solar power laptop which has solar panels on the lid. The laptop is also made by biodegradable material making it totally eco-friendly. In June 2009, a solar powered mobile was launched in India. If it is kept in Sun for an hour,it can be used for at least 5- 10 minutes. There is a village in Andhra Pradesh which happens to be the first solar village in the country. The energy needs are met by Solar power.
