My Name Is Khan is known for many reasons. Not just because of the union of two prominent personalities - Karan Johar, the producer-director and Shah Rukh Khan -of Hindi Cinema. That they are friends off the screen is well known. This is also the first film by Fox studios in Hindi. The film was in the mire of controversy due to King Khan's casual remark on Pakistani Cricketers' absence in the IPL. The local government in Mumbai had to intervene to facilitate the release of the film. I had the chance to watch the film yesterday and oh yeah... I loved the film. The film revolves around Rizwan Khan, an autism patient who sets out for a journey to reach the American President to say,his name is Khan and he is not a terrorist. Khan is insisted by his wife Mandira,a Hindu,to say so. For her,it is her second marriage with Khan and she has a son from her first marriage. Her son is killed by a few miscreants after 9/11 due to his new Muslim identity. She now rues over her second marriage and sends Shah Khan out of the house. I started liking the film in just 20 minutes. Unlike 3 Idiots, which is an idiotic sentimental trip, MNIK impressed me with its beautiful narration. I hadn't watched a Karan Johan film before and didn't have great opinion about him. He has proved that he has the stuff in MNIK. The film turns largely melodramatic during the second half and makes you go through some dull moments. However it doesn't annoy you. But,I have to disagree with whomever who said that Shah Rukh Khan's performance was exceptional. I loved his performance, however,I have to add,it is quite easy to acquire some set body language of an autism patient. It wouldn't be a tough job for any other good actor as well. I am not the right man to give an exclusive review on a Hindi film due to my minimal understanding of Hindi. Yet,I loved MNIK. Hats off to Karan Johar. Forgot to add here-there is a few enthralling beauties in the film,Khan's brother's wife and another lady whom Khan meets in a bus. Hats off to Johar and his team.
