God's Own Team

The IPL has grown on popularity in its three years of existence. Mukesh Ambani showed his might by paying the largest amount of money to buy the Mumbai team. Now some outsiders have surpassed him by spending an amount larger than all the current IPL teams put together. An unknown group of businessmen has bought the Kochi team. This may prove to be a shot in the arm for Kerala cricket. The God's own country hasn't produced many successful cricketers. I don't remember any other names beyond Abay Kuruvilla, Tinu Yohannen and Santhakumarn Srisanth. With the launch of a new team, Kerala cricket may expect many more players proving their worth. It is interesting to see the captain of the team. I couldn't think of Srisanth, who has to prove a lot and it too young to lead a team. I think the Kochi team will follow Chennai when it comes to the selection of the captain for their team. Having spent a huge amount, the team will be desperate to prove its credential. However, this is not a good news for the fans. With the addition of two more teams, the next edition of the event will see 90 matches. I don't think the public will have the patience to follow 90 games. Kochi will hope to see their team as the God's own team.
