Tamil cinema is seeing a new trend, with qualified engineers making a beeline into film making. A few of them are not just commercial film makers,they have broken new ground too. Gautam Vasudeva Menon, Selvaraghavan, Susi Ganesan and C.S.Amudhan all of these men have engineering backgrounds. However,they chose to respond to their inner call,snapped their relationship with engineering and entered filmdom. Gautam and Selvaraghavan are two of the finest new age film makers who have gained respect for Tamil cinema. For Gautam, it is Khaka Khaka and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu and for Selva Raghavan, it is his Thulluvadho Ilamai, Kadhal Konden and Pudupet which earned respect from cinema aficionados. All of these have a common factor- they wrote a lot during their college days and had an ambition to make films. And yes,engineering has cetainly help them to understand the technicalities of cinema.Susi Ganesan was pursuing Automobile Engineering in the prestigious Madras Institute of Technology . He had the guts to quit engineering despite being the best outgoing student in his batch.
