Chennai Sangamam

Chennai sangamam is a brainchild of Tamil maiyam, a cultural organization and Kanimozhi, a poet and member of parliament. It is an annual festival featuring music, dance, lectures, meetings and food. The beauty of Chennai sangamam is that music and dance programmes are held in public parks. Folk artists and some big names from the music industry will be performing live in front of audiences comprising people from all walks of life. Chennai sangamam is currently into its third year. When it was first held, it drew criticism from a few critics. They accused the organizers of wasting public money. However, the organizers cleared the air and made sure the festival was a run-away success. For many residents in the city, it was a new experience to see folk dance and music being performed. Instead of visiting a concert hall, the musicians, dancers and other artists come down to a place close to where people live. Over ten parks host the various shows of the festival. Along with this,a food festival is also held. Food is sold at affordable costs and will feature all the delicacies and dishes of various cities. People turn up in large numbers to the parks and enjoy their day.
